The Secret Lives of Ducks

I just wanted to upload the following clip before deleting it from my device.  It isn't really anything spectacular if you're used to ducklings.  If not, then the clip is kinda cute

LIVING WITH DUCKS

The above video was shot in Somanya, where I lived on a farm - alongside ducks - for a couple of months.  Ducks can make a real loud quacking sound but aren't particularly inclined to do so.  The only time I remember them going off is when they felt threatened or if a mother thought her nest was in danger or couldn't get access to it.  There was this one particular duck that was really fond of laying eggs in the hall leading to my bedroom.  And whenever I tried to lock her out, she would go wild.

Ducks are probably the most peaceful creatures I ever lived with.  I don't think they're dispositioned towards eating other animals.  I remember once seeing a duck getting into a fight with a chicken, and the former totally getting its ass kicked.  That's when I realized that ducks have very limited natural defenses - no teeth, no sharp beaks nor any claws to really speak of.

Ducks are also cool to live with in that even though they defecate indiscriminately, they don't necessarily do so in abundance.  The goal is to keep them in their designated areas and discourage them from venturing into the house.

Unlike chickens, ducks like water - and a lot of it.  You'd more commonly find them around waterbodies than being a raised by a person.  The homey is able to keep ducks around because he has a water pipe that leaks sometimes all day long sometimes.

Some people eat ducks, though I have yet to try it myself.  The ducks on the farm are actually being reared for selling and, to a lesser degree, consumption by the owners.  I don't know exactly how much they cost, but I do know they're more expensive than chickens.
